Nick today welcomed news of more Olympic Park apprenticeship places available to local young people in the run up the 2012 Games.
The Olympic Delivery Authority is currently seeking to place more apprentices in construction trades and security management positions. Nick is encouraging constituents aged 16-19 to contact Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLaB) to take advantage of this opportunity.
Nick says: ‘As an Olympic Borough, Greenwich’s local economy is set to benefit from a significant boost that the 2012 Games will bring. At a time of economic difficulties, I particularly welcome the creation of employment and training opportunities. The apprenticeships on offer during the run-up to the Games will ensure that hundreds of young people are given the chance to gain new skills and experiences that will prove invaluable in the employment world. Unlike in the 90s, when scores of young unemployed people were left to sink or swim, I am determined not to leave people by the wayside and will continue to back the Government’s initiatives to provide training and apprenticeships to help young people out of work or education’.
Eligible candidates must be Greenwich residents, aged 16-19, with a minimum C grade at GCSE Maths and English. For further details and to book a place on an assessment day, residents should contact Jan or Jamie at GLLaB on 0208 312 7960. Candidates who do not meet the specified criteria are encouraged to contact GLLaB to find out more about other employment, basic skills, vocational or personal development training courses that may be more suitable.
