Nick recently visited locally-based Rhodes Bakery, where he met owner and former chef Paul Rhodes to learn more about the business and its future plans.
Rhodes Bakery supplies cakes and bread products to top chefs across London. It also has a patisserie shop on the World Heritage Site in Greenwich Greenwich, a stall in Borough Market and is about to open a new venue to sell its high-quality cakes, sandwiches and coffee in Notting Hill. The business has grown successfully since moving into its current premises. Around 60 people currently work in the bakery, which Paul is hoping to expand further as demand for his products continues to grow.
Nick says: ‘It was great to be shown around to learn how and where Paul’s delicious bread and cakes are produced. I am a big supporter of small businesses here in Greenwich and Woolwich, and am particularly impressed at the development of high-quality food and drinks businesses such as Rhodes Bakery. Improved transport links to Greenwich in recent years have helped make the area an attractive location for business which, like Rhodes Bakery, have an expanding number of customers throughout the London area. That is just one more reason why we need to continue to invest in improved transport schemes’.
